Elders observed solidarity day

(Our Correspondent)
Hyderabad: In a response to the call given by Joint Action Committee of All India Senior Citizen’s Federations to observe senior citizens’ national solidarity day on 16th August, the silver citizens enthusiastically held the public meetings, seminars, group discussions, peace rallies and demonstrations through out the country to show their unity, strength and solidarity. Further, they submitted memorandums to prime minister, central ministers, and respective state chief ministers, ministers of concerned departments, and officials about their demands.

They conducted a post card campaign and wrote thousands of post cards to the central and state ministers urging the expedite implementation of National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) and Parents Welfare and Protection Act 2007 in all the states for the protection and welfare of the aged. Moreover, they appealed to the government to increase the old age pensions and bus travel concessions. They also requested the government to build old age homes and recreation centres in all the district and mandal head quarters.

They demanded the government to provide the health insurance policy to all the senior citizens at affordable price.  In various district head quarters of Andhra Pradesh, senior citizens took out rallies and submitted the memorandum to the district and mandal level officials.
