Elder’s Welfare Government Making Stringent Act

Hyderabad: “The government has been planning to introduce a stringent act of parent’s maintenance and senior citizens’ welfare act in the state, though it has been taking more time than expected to implement the act” said Anita Rajendra, IAS, commissioner, department of disabled and senior citizen’s welfare, government of Andhra Pradesh.

Releasing the nationwide survey report on “Elders and Crime in India” conducted by the Helpage India on the eve of world elder’s abuse awareness day on 14th June at Press Club, Basheerbagh, Hyderabad, she said “the act has already  been implanted in some districts in the state. The implementation will be extended to all the districts shortly. If the act is implemented stringently, senior citizens will get benefited and protected”.

Addressing the press meet, S.Dass, director of Helpage India, said “The nationwide survey report on elder’s abuse and crime in India, conducted by Helpage India, a charity working for the aged in India,  has revealed some startling facts. The survey was conducted in nine major metro cities in India”. He explained the importance of the elder’s abuse awareness day.

Mr. RN Mital, president of All India Senior Citizens’ Confederation, Dr. Rao V.B.J Chelikani, honourary president, state federation of senior citizens’ organization, Vuppla  Gopala Rao, vice president,  Aasara GHMC, addressed the meeting. Mohd Raza Mohammad, joint director, Helpage India, AP, had welcome the guests. Mrinal Srikanth, senior executive, Helplines, Helpage India, AP, proposed the vote of thanks.
