New Delhi: Senior Citizens Council of Delhi in
association with Confederation of Senior Citizens Association of Delhi
participated in Walkathon, at India Gate, organised by Help Age India with the
support of Ministry of Social and Empowerment Government of India, on October 1st.
More than 4000 senior citizens across Delhi participated in walkathon. Mukul
Wasnik, Union Minister led the Walkathon.
In the evening, Senior Citizens Council of Delhi organised a
cultural programme in association with ICCR at Green Fields School, Safdarjung
Enclave, New Delhi in which more than 800 senior citizens participated. Eminent
senior citizens were also felicitated by chief guest Ajay Makhan, Union Sports
Minister on this occasion.
J.R.Gupta, president of the Council said that such functions have
been being organised for the past 10 years in the honor of senior citizens to make
them feel free from loneliness. Gupta further said that the Council is
protecting lonely citizens from abuse, humiliation from children and other
problems.
Chief guest Ajay Makhan appreciated the efforts and
initiative of Council for the cause and care of elderly for the past several years.
S.B.K.Singh, Joint Police Commissioner(Crime) and Mr.V.Namgyel, Ambassador of
Bhutan complimented Council for doing an excellent work for elderly
people.
