Mital Meets Minister Mukul Wasnik in New Delhi

New Delhi: On June 9, RN Mital, president, All India Senior Citizens’ Confederation and Dr. K.R. Gangadharan [Advisor, AISCCON] called on Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment [MOSJE].

They met Minister Sri Mukul Wasnik, Special Secretary Smt. Sangeeta Gairola, IAS and the Joint Secretary Sri Abhilaksh Likhi.IAS.

They invited the minister to inaugurate the 11th Conference in Visakhapatnam during November this year.

He expressed his consent to inaugurate the Conference. The minister said that the draft of the NPSC, which has been presented to him by the Review Committee, is going to be finalized shortly and the new Policy is expected to be declared before the end of this year. The Minister further assured that he is very keen to see that the MWPSC Act is implemented all over the Country at the earliest and advised that the GO regarding increase in the Old Age Pension for 80+ and lowering the age limit from 65 to 60 years would be issued within this month. He promised to look into other issues such as the concession in Bus fares and setting up of Old Age Homes and Multi Service Day Care Centres in all Districts though they are state subjects.

Punjab Senior citizens Tribunal orders son to pay Maintenance to mother

CHANDIGARH: The Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Welfare Act 2007 was adopted by Punjab Government in July 2008. The court of the Tribunal under the Maintenance & Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 (Sub Divisional Magistrate) Jalandhar has pronounced a land mark judgment. H.S.Mattewal Advocate General Punjab informed that the Judge of the Tribunal has ordered Kamaljeet Singh s/o Sukhinder Singh r/o Jalandhar to deposit Rs. 10,000 per month as Maintenance allowance in the account of his mother Gurcharn Kaur through Cheque/Demand Draft. The court also directed Kanwaljeet Singh to allow his parents to reside in their residential house at Jalandhar and not restrain their entry. Kanwaljeet Singh had ousted his parents from the house and they were forced to stay with their daughter at Amritsar. Mattewal informed that this historic Act adopted by the state Government would prove to be a boon for such parents who were rendered shelter less in the old age. This Act would also safe guard the interest of such hapless old parents in providing them security in the evening of their life to live with honour and dignity.

Online Elder Abuse Survey 2011: Elder Abuse, Magnitude & Intervention

Hyderabad: On the occasion of 6^th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), set to be held on 15^th  June 2011, Silver Inning Foundation, a NGO working with senior citizens and their family members in association with INPEA (International Network for Prevention of Elder Abuse) Indian Chapter through Development, Welfare and Research Foundation (DWARF) and 'Little Things Matter Initiatives' (LTMI); SSS Global; FESCOM (Mumbai) ; 1298 Senior Citizens Helpline, Mumbai; AISCCON  & Harmony for Silvers Foundation will be commemorating Elder Abuse Awareness Day from May 20^th to June 20^th, 2011 . It has taken the initiative to create awareness among civil society and Government to eliminate elder abuse at both micro and macro level.

In this regards, we have undertaken this online survey on Elder Abuse to understand the magnitude of Abuse and Intervention for our Elderly. This survey though focus on Senior Citizens, but people of All Ages from 18year and above can undertake this survey and help us to understand the Elder Abuse in our society.
