Bangalore Senior Citizens staged silent rally

Bangalore: The Federation of Senior Citizen Forums of Karnataka on 16th August observed “Protest Day” here to draw the attention of the State Government towards the plight of senior citizens. Hundreds of senior citizens, who gathered at Bandstand in Cubbon Park, staged a silent protest during which office-bearers of the federation highlighted different problems faced by over 10 crore senior citizens in the country.
Demonstrators pointed out that the National Policy on Older Persons brought out by the Union Government in 1999 and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens' Act, 2007 enacted by Parliament remained on paper. “Except three States, all other States have not implemented the Act,” said Mr. Rangaswamy, secretary of the federation.
