Chief Secretary reviews Senior Citizen welfare programs in AP

AP State Council on Older Persons meeting held at Chief Secretary office, Govt of AP on 28th July. Chief secretary reviewed the welfare programs for the elders in the state. Here are some of the issues brought to the notice of the CS. As a member of State Council for Older Persons HelpAge India participated in this meeting.

  • There was a request to increase the IGNOAP Rs.200 to Rs.400/- in AP
  • Request from the members to include the senior citizens living in the Old Age Homes under the Arogyasree Health Scheme.
  • Concessions and facilities for the elders in the state transportation buses. Implementing Aasara like program in all the municipalities very soon.
  • Concession to Senior citizens in payment of Property Tax:
  • Amendments to Building byelaws to make them disabled friendly/ Senior citizens friendly
  • Implementation of Parents & Senior citizens Maintenance Act 2007
  • Starting a Senior citizens Fund (relief Fund for senior citizens)
