Short Bio Data of R.N.Mital

Born on December 30, 1926, R.N.Mital graduated in Science from the Allahabad University and then in Engineering with honours from the Roorkee University of Technology. He joined Philips Industries in Holland and was the recipient of the first World patent granted to their Research Laboratories in the field of application of Semiconductors.

After a stint of 4 years with Philips in Holland, he joined Philips Industries in India as Development Manager and rose to the position of Manager of their Factories in Calcutta and later as Corporate Technical Manager of their entire operations in India which included five Factories in different parts of the Country.

He had the honour of being selected as member of a team of experts by the Govt of India during 1962 which was sent on a World tour to study the progress in electronics industries in industrialised countries. He has been abroad several times both for business and pleasure and has visited almost all major countries.

In 1963, he joined as the General Manager of Jay Engineering Works [Hyderabad operations] the then largest manufacturers in India of electric fans and sewing machines under the brand name of USHA.

In 1969, he took over as Managing Director of Ferro Electrics Ltd a joint venture with APIDC Ltd., and in 1980, as the Chairman and Managing Director of South India Resins and Chemicals P. Ltd.

He retired from the manufacturing activity in 1990 and took up the representation of a few European and Chinese Companies in the field of Specialty Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Raw Materials, and is now the proprietor of a firm known as Impex India.

He is now actively involved in social and community service particularly for the welfare of Senior Citizens. He was unanimously elected for 3 years as the Senior Vice President of AISCCON [All India Senior Citizens’ Confederation] for the second term in 2007.

He has now been unanimously elected as the President of the All India Senior Citizens’ Confederation [AISCCON] for 3 year term on September 5, 2010

He is also the President of APSCCON [Andhra Pradesh Senior Citizen’ Confederation] and is the Chairman of the Association of Senior Citizens, Hyderabad.

He is the Chairman of two Committees constituted by All India Senior Citizens’ Confederation dealing with Health Security for Senior Citizens and Old Age Homes. He was instrumental in organizing five All India Seminars and numerous high level Committee meetings involving IRDA and other concerned organizations which have helped in bringing the issue of Health Security for Older Persons to the forefront.

The National Seminars and Workshops were organised to publicly deliberate and high light subjects such as:

            Senior Citizens as a National Resource [one Seminar]

            Health Care for Senior Citizens at Affordable Cost [3 Seminars]

            Prevention of Elder Abuse [one workshop]

           

He was honored by the Government of Andhra Pradesh on Elders Day in 2004, by the  Tamilnadu Association  of Senior Citizens in 2006 and by various other Associations and Organisations of Senior Citizens on number of occasions for his work in the field of welfare of Older Persons.

He was awarded Golden Award by on October 1, 2009, instituted by HelpAge India [in their own words]“ to honour exceptional individuals who have contributed consistently for the welfare  of the society more so in their advancing years.”
