Retirement is bliss - Aging is no illness


1.    If you can regain the characteristics of youth, you have regained youth. One such characteristic is “Emotional Openness”.
2.    Do not let the stress put the hurt on you. Stress can be reduced through mediating, stretching, listening to music, enjoying hobbies, taking a vacation, going for a walk and having a pet.
3.    Extra body weight means extra joint pain. Loose weight gradually with diet and exercise. The cheapest and most widely used medicine for pain still is aspirin.  Take it with food to minimize the side effects under Doctor’s guidance.
4.    The Calcium intake is very essential if older people to ‘Walk tall’.  The deck is stacked against women when it comes to calcium deficiency. It is recommended that all aging women should take 1000 to 1500 mg of calcium daily.
5.    Iron, Vitamin E and exercises are linked. Keep an eye on both.
6.    Eighty percent of Cancer is related to the way people choose to live. Cancer can be prevented with diet of skimmed milk, fiber and non fatty substances. Dark green and yellow vegetables contain beta carotene, vitamin A, and vegetables in the cabbage family are very useful in fighting the cancer of the stomach.
7.    Smoking can cause cancer and heart attacks.
8.    Anger takes a toll of your Immune system.
9.    A high blood pressure of 140/90 should be taken more seriously. Exercise and diet can bring down the blood pressure.
10. Stress may be factor in hyper tension, change of personality from type A to type B is recommended.
11. The use of less salt and less saturated fats and moderate use of alcohol, potassium containing fruit (avocados, oranges, bananas, potatoes and cantaloupes) are recommended.
12. Use brown rice, molasses, wheat germ, soy products and nuts to provide the needed potassium.
13. Diabetes is caused by too much sugar in the body. It can be kept away by staying slim, eating fiber foods and taking enough exercise. Vitamin C has been known to cure colds and help in diabetes.
14. A high protein break fast, sun light and exercise should reset your body every morning.
15. Relaxed and non involved afternoon and evening sleep, and conductive company add years to your life. In short, secondary aging can be slowed down if a person is careful about his diet and stress prone environment and has developed some social commitment. It is belief of the present author that we may not have found the cause of primary aging but, we do have enough information to gain an insight into the cause and cures of secondary aging.
